Customers Reviews 2010-09-06 THERE IS HOPE! Last year I worked VERY hard to eat healthy in small portions and exercise like crazy 5x a week. As a result I lost 45 pounds. And then I found out I was pregnant. I gained it all back and then some. Once I healed from my c-section I started working out faithfully 5x a week again - and eating healthy. Yet nothing was working to take off those pounds. After 6 weeks I had lost a pound and I was SOOOO ready to throw in the towel. My mom reminded me that a few years ago I followed the IR way of linking and balancing and lost 35 pounds then - goodness knows why I ever stopped. I think my low self-esteem back then stopped me from getting back on the wagon every time I fell off. I also have known for 5 or 6 years now that I have PCOS and it's put me in the state of mind for years that I would never be able to lose the weight and keep it off. But when I spoke to my mom a couple weeks ago she encouraged me to cut back on carbs. I decided to follow the 2:1 ratio in the IR Diet book. This past week? I lost 7 pounds in one week, never once felt deprived, didn't crave bad food or large portions and I had more energy than usual - only needed one nap. And what's better? I hardly had to work at it! It's like my body breathed a sigh of relief because I was FINALLY doing what it needed. I am so encouraged by the fact that I went for 6 weeks struggling through with barely no weight loss and once I started eating right I lost 7 pounds in one week! I am still kind of in shock. I haven't read the book in a while but I do remember that it encourages fat-free dairy products (and other things like salad dressings) and I am not a fan - in fact I won't eat them. Most of the low-fat or fat-free products are actually HIGHER in carbs (and many times sodium also) than their fattier counterparts. That's how they add flavor and cut fat - they add carbs instead. I'll take the extra fat, thanks. Also - I don't ever do artificial sweeteners so if it means I just get a smaller piece of cake or one less cookie then so be it. Other than those two points I pretty much agreed with all the science of the book. My mom borrowed my copy of the book and then loaned it to someone else so I am running out tomorrow for a new copy. I want to reread the whole thing, but at it's core - this plan and way of eating and living truly works. It's basic and it works. | 2010-08-29 Excellent service and product! The shipping was very quick and the book was in excellent shape, just as it was described or better!
This particular book was a very good book filled with exactly the information during my new discovery of the prediabetic problems I faced. The book describes the why and hows of how blood sugar affects the body. After understanding the insulin system in the body, the book gives great information on how to manage through diet and exercise insulin resistance and blood sugar levels. | 2010-08-16 This book saved me I can't recommend this book enough. After years of battling excess weight, facial hair and painful, irregular periods due to PCOS this book saved me. I have had this condition since I was 10 yrs old. The psychological effect of this condition on me as a teenager is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I spent years going to infertility clinics and being pumped with hormones because I couldn't get pregnant; years sweating away hours a night with a personal trainer at a gym to no avail and when I found this book, I had been on Weight Watchers for 8 months, yet I began to gain weight on it! WW told me I needed to eat more food! Every useless doctor I went to made me feel like I was doing something on purpose to be the way that I was. Finally, I found this book, went to an Endocrinologist who knew what he was talking about and within 2 months lost the 30 lbs of weight that plagued me for the last 10 years. The first thing my Endocrinologist did was take me OFF Weight Watchers. If you suffer from Insulin Resistance, WW is not for you; it's too low on protein and permits one to eat foods high in carbohydrates without pairing it with a protein. Link and Balance through the Insulin Resistance Diet is the way to go. I learned how to eat correctly and followed this Insulin Resistance Diet, maintained the gym regime and went on 850 mg, 2x's daily of Metformin, 2 Spironolactone daily, BC pills and within 2 months I was normal again. No more irregular periods. Less body hair and I could honestly say, I was at a normal weight - 30 lbs lighter. I didn't starve at all and unlike WW, I didn't "pass out" and get the shakes after I ate something, which incidentally is how my Gyno (who referred me to the Endo Specialist) caught the condition. I had eaten a Fiber Bar (2 points on Weight Watchers) 45 mins before my appt, and when I arrived they tested my insulin levels because my speech was slurred and I was passing out. Anyway, one year later, without even trying, my husband and I conceived on our own without any infertility treatment. I started ovulating on my own. Our baby is due in January. | 2010-06-21 The Insulin-Resistance Diet So far an informative and easy to understand book. I have not completed yet, but have started following the suggestions the book offers with success. I think it is a worthy read and helpful if you suffer from insulin resistance. | 2010-06-09 Changed my life After seeing an episode of Dexter in which a guy was killed using insulin, I realized that the symptoms of insulin overdose were very similar to the way I had been feeling for years and years after every meal (sluggish, sleepy, speeding heartbeat, inabilty to think or concentrate).
So, I set about find a book on it and came across this one.
This book is not for every one's body chemistry. Its only for people who have over active insulin production after eating carb-rich foods. I now know that I am one of those people.
Within the first two pages, you are given the information that removes, forever and always, any excuse you may be able to make for your self to 'just have one' or 'just a little bit and I make up for it later'. It explains to you way your body is how it is and that you can no longer eat what you eat.
So, I did what this book said. And now, six months later, I am 35 pounds lighter and 10 pounds from my target weight. I feel great. I am playing basketball again. I look much better and I can almost see my abdominals muscles again for the first time in 25 years. My psoriasis is gone. My digestion is back to normal. I get over colds quicker. 90% of my health issues where all realted to insulin. Also, I gave this book to my dad, and he has lost 23 pounds.
So, again, if you have have trouble after meals or even after small carb-rich snacks, you are probably have a metabolic problem wth insulin like I do and this book will not only tell you how to stop it, it will remove all excuses - forever.
If you are one of those metabolic types, this will cure you. |

Find Out About The Dangers Associated With Dieting Dieting should have sensible basis otherwise it may do nothing but undermine and ruin your health. There are some dangers associated with dieting.
Danger 1 - on my own
The habit always to rely upon oneself is not the appropriate tactics in dieting. Fattiness like any other diseases should be treated under the strict doctor’s control. Every one is unique and needs certain and specific approach. Someone may be stout but have a good health someone may have few “extra kilos” which will intermix with serious diseases. So you should be completely aware of your current state. Work, life style, surroundings, living conditions and even climate should be taken in account when choosing a diet.
Danger 2 - on the buckwheat
There are several dieting myths: you should eat meat, you should eat once or twice a day, it’s useful to eat only buckwheat or apple pines for example. Each product is wholesome for sure but only in the combination with other useful products. And if you decided to keep to a “one-side” diet you merely deprive yourself of necessary and vital elements.
The greatest problems may cause incredible protein decrease, especially animal protein which can not be substituted by soy or legumes protein. Animal protein is the base for ferments and hormones production. In case you reduce protein consumption the reproductive function gets worse and the blood formula changes.
Another danger is the lack of calcium which we usually get of the diary products. This element is absolutely necessary especially for the young organism which bones are still in the process of formation.
The variety of food is the main point of the right diet. Remember you may eat everything but with the sense of measure. Fish, vegetables and fruits are irreplaceable products and should “find place” in your diet however.
Danger 3 – only diet
If you really want to loose weight and not to regain it you’d better thing about dieting and physical loading as separate things but work out the plan of healthy life style. It may include the food we eat, the way we spend our free time, sleep and whatever. The main tendency today is square meals and minimum of physical exercise. The quantity of energy we receive should not exceed the quantity we consume.
The simplest recommendations are to eat divisionally – every 3 or 4 hours in little quantities, not to eat before going to bed.
Danger 4- food is my best friend
The other stumbling block is to compensate stress depression by eating sweets and chocolates. Some times in such situations a person may eat even when he is not hungry.
Remember everything is in your own hands. |
