Product Description When Mehmet Oz or any of New York's leading doctors has a patient whose life depends on losing weight, they call on Joel Fuhrman, M.D. In EAT TO LIVE, Dr. Fuhrman offers his healthy, effective, and scientifically proven plan for shedding radical amounts of weight quickly, and keeping it off.Losing weight under Dr. Fuhrman's plan is not about willpower, it is about knowledge. The key to this revolutionary diet is the idea of nutrient density, as expressed by the simple formula Health=Nutrients/Calories. When the ratio of nutrients to calories is high, fat melts away and health is restored. Losing 20 pounds in two to three weeks is just the beginning. The more high-nutrient food Dr. Fuhrman's patients consume, the more they are satisfied with fewer calories, and the less they crave fat and high-calorie foods. Designed for people who must lose 50 pounds or more in a hurry, EAT TO LIVE works for every dieter, even those who want to lose as little as 10 pounds quickly. No willpower required-just knowledge! |
Customers Reviews 2008-09-29 FACTS NOT GIMMICKS Well written concerned with facts about disease and diets. It is not trying to sell any products (shakes, bars, etc.), but only trying to educate consumers about processed foods and their affects on the body. | 2008-09-22 It really works! All you have to do is follow the plan - read & understand the book - the 'why' of how it works then follow it. It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change. It's not for cheaters, this is for people who are really ready to commit to making a change. This plan is simple, the first six weeks making meals was never easier - salads, fruits & vegetables! Once you understand the difference between the hunger you feel two hours after a burger & fries, and real hunger in your stomach, it is easy. The best thing I can say is it works. There is no hunger - you just learn to eat healthier and as much as you want at meals - and the pounds fall off. We felt better (sleeping better, sharper thinking, etc) within days.
Good luck, it's a healthy way to improve your lifestyle! | 2008-09-09 nice introduction to healthful eating Dr. Fuhrman's book is a well organized, mostly easy to read approach to better eating. I bought two copies after i read it to pass along to those in need. I really appreciated the scienctific support and research that he included. There are some recipes in the later chapters, with many more available through his website, as well as an easy to follow menue plan for the first 6 weeks. its a simple approach and definitely worth the read. | 2008-09-02 This worked wonders for me I bought this book and began following Fuhrman's dietary guidelines at the end of April, committing to 30 days to see if there would be any results. I had previously been an ovo-lacto vegetarian for four months, but had only succeeded in putting on weight (cheese probably being the culprit). Following Fuhrman's ideas for a vegan plan, along with regular moderate exercise, not only did I stick to it past the initial 30-day period, but I lost over 30 pounds in about three months. I'm now at 158, down from 190 pounds at my heaviest, and close to the weight I was throughout my twenties. I'm back to the same size pants as I wore in college and my mid-twenties (I'm now mid-thirties), lost nearly all of that dangerous belly fat. I have more energy and feel great. My formerly high total cholesterol is down to about 150, LDL about 100. All other blood parameters look great, although my blood pressure is still high.
My wife and I eat lots of leafy greens, beans, fruit, whole grains, and virtually no added cooking oil. We have been taking B12 supplements and some vegetarian Omega-3 DHA since we're not eating fish.
After four months of Eat to Live, I would highly recommend this book. I never knew that weight loss could be this easy, nor that I had the capacity to positively affect my health so quickly. My caveat would be that, especially if you want to do the vegan plan, you need to spend some time borrowing or investing in some good cookbooks (most veg/vegan recipes can be easily modified by cutting oil). I don't find it hard at all to stick to this diet, but I think it is in part because my wife and I are fairly adventurous and like to try different things. We eat lots of delicious Indian, Mexican, and Chinese-style dishes. Also, there is a short transitional phase, after which your taste-buds will definitely adjust. After staying away from typical American foods drenched in oil and fat, even vegan dishes in mainstream restaurants can taste too rich. On the other hand, we haven't felt it too difficult to find appropriate dishes when eating out in the Twin Cities area.
Finally, we think it costs us about the same as before on this diet. We buy lots of veggies at our local Farmer's market, plus whole grain bread, pasta etc. at Trader Joe's. We have never been extravagant, but we've never shopped purely on price either.
Try it for at least 30 days and see what happens. | 2008-08-18 The best prescription This books contains all the information you need to implement healthy changes in your life. No one could adopt these dietary changes without seeing improvement, or complete resolution, of their chronic health conditions.
I am a practicing anesthesiologist, and as a physician I admit to some bias. I segregate books on health-related topics into two categories: those written by qualified professionals (M.D.'s & PhD's), and those that were not (which I fondly refer to as "groovy books"). I admit to reading the groovy ones, too, but I take their claims with a grain of salt. This book, so obviously based on the latest research as well as Dr Furhman's clinical experience, abundantly referenced, is a wake-up call. I fail to see how any intelligent reader could come away from this book without a new perspective on health, disease, and their deitary habits.
I deal daily with surgical patients who are in their poor state of health, and scheduled for operations, as a direct result of many years of dietary self-abuse. If I could but hand them a copy of this book and turn back the clock, I have no doubt that I would be out of a job. |

Find Out About The Dangers Associated With Dieting Dieting should have sensible basis otherwise it may do nothing but undermine and ruin your health. There are some dangers associated with dieting.
Danger 1 - on my own
The habit always to rely upon oneself is not the appropriate tactics in dieting. Fattiness like any other diseases should be treated under the strict doctor’s control. Every one is unique and needs certain and specific approach. Someone may be stout but have a good health someone may have few “extra kilos” which will intermix with serious diseases. So you should be completely aware of your current state. Work, life style, surroundings, living conditions and even climate should be taken in account when choosing a diet.
Danger 2 - on the buckwheat
There are several dieting myths: you should eat meat, you should eat once or twice a day, it’s useful to eat only buckwheat or apple pines for example. Each product is wholesome for sure but only in the combination with other useful products. And if you decided to keep to a “one-side” diet you merely deprive yourself of necessary and vital elements.
The greatest problems may cause incredible protein decrease, especially animal protein which can not be substituted by soy or legumes protein. Animal protein is the base for ferments and hormones production. In case you reduce protein consumption the reproductive function gets worse and the blood formula changes.
Another danger is the lack of calcium which we usually get of the diary products. This element is absolutely necessary especially for the young organism which bones are still in the process of formation.
The variety of food is the main point of the right diet. Remember you may eat everything but with the sense of measure. Fish, vegetables and fruits are irreplaceable products and should “find place” in your diet however.
Danger 3 – only diet
If you really want to loose weight and not to regain it you’d better thing about dieting and physical loading as separate things but work out the plan of healthy life style. It may include the food we eat, the way we spend our free time, sleep and whatever. The main tendency today is square meals and minimum of physical exercise. The quantity of energy we receive should not exceed the quantity we consume.
The simplest recommendations are to eat divisionally – every 3 or 4 hours in little quantities, not to eat before going to bed.
Danger 4- food is my best friend
The other stumbling block is to compensate stress depression by eating sweets and chocolates. Some times in such situations a person may eat even when he is not hungry.
Remember everything is in your own hands. |
