Good plan for cooking SCD--not good recipes
I have made 8-10 recipes from this book, and some of them turn out, and some of them don't. With almond flour recipes, sometimes the batter is too runny, and the cooking times are off. I'm not sure if the conversion from cooking temperatures in celcius to fahrenheit are the trouble or what, but it's not a very reliable set of recipes. However, the first section of the book, which outlines when and how often to make SCD staples is helpful. Just use different recipes. :) I highly recommend "Grain Free Gourmet" by Jodi Bager.

Great Ideas, sometimes too far out there
I love this cook book it has helped to ease my move from a Carb-loaded diet to the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. However, some of the recipes are too far out there. I can look at them and tell that I would never be able to get my kids to eat that elaborate dish.

Disappointed
When I saw the picture on the book it grabbed my attention so I use the "look inside" feature to what what recipes it offered before purchasing it. It seemed to be interesting so I bought it. I was disappointed though b/c the recipes are a little fancy and time consuming. The book does offer wonderful pictures. If you have a lot of time on your hands and like to create in my opinion "fru fru" food then this book would be great for you.

I actually re-sold the book back on Amazon.com b/c I didn't have a need for it.

Beautiful Coffee Table Book but recipes contain my allergens
There is a beautiful full-page full-color photograph on virtually every other page of beautifully prepared food. This book is pretty enough to leave on your coffee table for visitor's delight and discussions on food. I purchased this book as I am interested in introducing more kefir and yogurt into my gluten-free diet and looked like this was the book for me. However, almost every recipe contains almond meal and those that don't contain nightshades which are known allergens for me. She even adds almond meal to hamburger patties and parmesan crackers. The SCD diet has definitely been beneficial to almond farmers but not to me. I found less than 5 recipes that I could try so I am going to give it only 4 stars for me as I wish there was more of a variety of foods used. If you wanted to be on the rotational allergy diet you couldn't with this book because of the almonds and eggs and dairy in almost every recipe but all SCDDiet may be that way, I don't know; what do you eat on the almond-free days? I love the photographs so much that they caused me to enjoy food and food preparation more so for that I will give the book 4 stars.

Recipes to me for try: Beef Stroganoff, Peanut Sauce, Pumpkin and Leek Pie, Mushroom and Spinach Roulade. There are also beverages and salads that are almond and nightshade free but I already have thousands of those recipes and wasn't looking for help there. If you are dairy-free, this cookbook is definitely not for you.

UPDATE: I tried the Red Bean Burgers and I think there is something wrong - maybe too many eggs? No way you could form patties out of it. I dropped them like pancake batter to form eggy sunflower seed red bean pancake patties but they fell apart upon flipping. So I ended up scrambling them like refried breakfast beans but it was not something I liked the flavor of. However, my dog that it was scrumptious. I will not make this recipe again as it is expensive and time-consuming compared to other dog food recipes I have. I noticed when going through the recipes that often the ingredient list didn't seem to match up to the directions so I wonder if there was a typo in the red bean burger recipe. I will try another recipe. In the meantime, it is a pretty book about food presentation.

Very Good Food! Excellent Gift for those recently Diagnosed.
Celiacs and Autoimmune problems are not fun. This book has both great tasting meals; photos, and is a benefit not only to the ease of finding the items and the information behind "WHY" these foods promote excellent health! It is a Very Motivating and High-End Cookbook for anyone dealing with these conditions (and NOT dealing just wishing to become healthier) or for cooking for a family where one member suffers from any of these conditions; Crohns-IBS-Celiacs (or other Auto Immune problems)would likely only benefit. Will buy more for family as gifts; will recommend as a nurse to other patients.
